This was one of my earliest memories – I was 4.
I had been sent to weekly boarding school in preparation for permanent boarding school hundreds of miles away from Home.
The bellowing screaming that came from behind was directed at me. It was the headmaster. The only thing that I remember was the whole school turned around to watch me, head hung low, in streams of tears, being escorted out of the Dining room. It was horrific!
I was then left on the step outside for what seemed like an eternity. I had no idea what I had done wrong so automatically though that there was something wrong with me. A short while later, a lovely teacher who obviously felt terrible came out and called my parents who promptly came and removed me from that establishment.
So, my post today asking what is “right” with the picture is absolutely that.
A recent “Healthline” article in March 2021 quotes that “Historically, left-handed people have been viewed and treated as outcasts. In the Middle Ages, left-handed people feared being accused of witchcraft.
As recently as the early 20th century, many educators in the United States forced left-handers to “retrain” their natural tendencies in order to become right-handed.”
This is SO WRONG on so many accounts.
Then I was so angry but now I am so thankful that this happened. What this did for me was fuel my desire to prove to everyone that labeled me, judged me and used draconian rules that they were wrong.
Who else had a situation that they distinctly remember impacting their lives?
